Backstory

Motherhood is one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs in the world! So when my wife’s sister, who is also a mother, wanted to take a vacation for her birthday I offered to help make it a girls trip by buying their flights. The flights were about $435 each, including check bags and seat selection, on Spirit Airlines. They chose St. Thomas as their vacation location. Great location for my wife because she doesn’t have her passport yet but good thing for her, you don’t need a passport to travel to the USVI.

So they both got their PCR test for travel and uploaded the results to the USVI traveler screening portal for access to the island. The test must be taken and received 5 days before travel to the island. For more information go to www.https://www.usvitravelportal.com.

With flights booked, resort room reserved, PCR submitted they took off to St Thomas for their first girls trip in 12 years!

Hotel Review

Check in: As you walk into the front lobby you are greeted with island music and someone playing the steel drum, a classic Caribbean instrument. Check in went smoothly. The room was booked through Wyndham Timeshare points and they asked about attending that annoying sales meeting. Once it was declined, they didn't ask again which is great. Once checked into the room, there was a different line to wait in to receive wrist bands for the resort. Luckily, neither of the lines were long.

Room: My wife felt the room was decent. Prior to booking and checking in they asked to have a room with a view but instead a received a room with a partial view. Lots of palm trees which are nice but they were blocking the view of the ocean.

The room was a studio floor plan with a kitchenette area. The room decor was nice and fitting for a beach vibe. The bathroom had a large walk in shower and a modern feel to it. The balcony was small with two chair but would have been better if the ocean was completely viewable.

Overall, the room felt pretty standard. Nothing bad (thank goodness) but also nothing unique or super amazing.

Food: The room was located close to the resort restaurants which was a plus. No need to walk far for drinks or food. The food was on the expensive side and the taste was meh. The non friendly service definitely didn’t make the experience any better but at least there was a diamond in the rough. Unfortunately, unfriendly staff seemed to be a theme on the island. The bartender named Eric made phenomenal drinks which added to the overall enjoyment of the trip but again, he wasn’t very friendly either.

Excursions: The tour of the island that was very informative and saddening as the tour guide pointed out all the beauty of the island that had been destroyed by hurricanes and not rebuilt. The tour stopped at the beautiful and most popular beach on the island Magen’s Bay Beach. The sand was a beautiful hue of tan and the water was clear, even two toned in some areas. Amazing beach.

Check out: This went well. Check out was at 11am but the flight wasn’t until 3pm so they basically took a late checkout by just staying in the room until 1pm. Lol.

Conclusion: This trip was a much due girls trip which was enjoyable but much like the room, nothing bad but also nothing super amazing. The island was cool but doesn’t offer much to in terms of excitemen.
